Tonight I broke out of my two game skid with two hits in four at bats. Not two pretty hits but they will have to do. My timing is still not quite there yet. I am still working on getting that down. I sure hope it comes around soon because I am ready to start hitting some long balls! Tomorrow I plan to continue with my normal stride in my first at bat but if I don't feel comfortable I think I will use my no stride approach. No stride just simplifies everything so I may have to go to that. We will see. We finally won a game tonight too which was awesome. I think we had lost 4 or 5 straight before tonight. Our starting pitcher did great and our defense was good too. The team we are playing against has a former major league outfielder on their team who was apparently one of the fastest guys in the MLB when he was there and I threw him out at second today trying to steal. Pretty awesome!
Before the game started today I went to the field really early and got in a lot of extra batting practice. Our trainer met me at the field at 1:30 so I could work on my timing to try to get it down sooner this year so I can get on a good streak. While I was hitting I took a few rounds from the left side and sure enough I hit one over the fence left handed! That was probably the first time I had hit on a field left handed since high school and I still got one out. I didn't hit every ball good but I did take some good swings and hit some balls hard. Pretty good considering I am not left handed and I haven't really worked on it too much. I think it is something I could do by the middle of the season if the trainer is willing to keep throwing to me often. Our pitching coach keeps telling me that a switch hitting catcher is the fastest way to the bigs so if I can pull it off that would help me out a ton.
Tomorrow our game is at 6:00 so maybe I will be able to see the ball a little better. It is really difficult to see the ball at our field because of the shadows and the lights being so bad. There were two curveballs thrown to me today that I didn't even see once they got halfway to me. They just looked like black dots coming in and baseballs are supposed to look white. So maybe there will be more sun tomorrow with the earlier start time. My goal for tomorrow when I walk up to the plate is to clear my head and only focus on the baseball. Sometimes I get too caught up into trying to get my timing down that I forget to hit the ball too! All the guys I hit with I always tell them to clear their mind and just hit the ball because when your head is cluttered you forget what you are up there to do and that is hit. So I need to take some of my own advice and do it tomorrow.
Hope everyone is playing great this weekend. I just got a text today that one of my hitters hit a homer to dead center! Sweet!
